Quick answer: the best device for IPTV
For most people, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen): it runs every major IPTV player, has 2 GB of RAM and Wi-Fi 6E, and costs less than a box. If you want Ethernet and more power, get the Google TV Streamer or, in the US, the Onn 4K Pro. iPhone households do well with an Apple TV 4K. Avoid the new Vega OS Fire TV Sticks and Roku: neither can run the players that IPTV needs.

A streaming device that is great for Netflix can be a poor IPTV box. Netflix ships its own app for every platform; IPTV depends on a third-party player such as TiviMate or IBO Player, and that player has to be able to install, hold a 40,000-channel list in memory and switch channels fast. That changes the ranking. Below are the devices we recommend, the ones to avoid, and why.

What matters for IPTV
- Can it run the player? The best IPTV players are Android apps. Fire OS, Google TV and Android TV devices run them; Apple TV has its own App Store players; Roku and Vega OS do not.
- RAM: 2 GB is the minimum for a large channel list. 3 to 4 GB keeps the guide and channel switching quick.
- Ethernet: a cable beats Wi-Fi for live sport. Some devices have a port built in; sticks need an adapter.
- Codecs: HEVC (H.265) is essential for 4K channels. AV1 is a bonus that will matter more over the next few years.
- Storage: 8 GB fills up quickly once the player caches its guide. 16 GB or more is comfortable.

The six picks
1. Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen): best overall
Fire OS 8, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6E, Dolby Vision and AV1. It installs TiviMate, IBO Player Pro and XCIPTV, it is cheap and often on sale, and it hides behind the TV. Amazon has said every new Fire TV Stick from the 4K Select onwards runs Vega OS, so this is the stick to buy while it is still on shelves. Add an Ethernet adapter if your Wi-Fi is weak. 2. Onn 4K Pro: best budget box (US only)
Walmart’s own-brand Google TV box: 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6, Dolby Vision and Atmos, AV1, and an Ethernet port, for around $50. It runs every Android IPTV player from the Play Store or by sideloading. The Ethernet port is 100 Mbps, which is plenty for IPTV. It is sold in the US only.
3. Google TV Streamer: best all-rounder with Ethernet
Google’s replacement for the Chromecast: 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, Gigabit Ethernet, Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The extra memory makes a large channel list and guide feel instant. It costs about twice as much as a stick but sits on a shelf with a proper network cable, which is the setup we recommend for live sport.
4. NVIDIA Shield TV Pro: best for power users
Still one of the fastest Android TV boxes for IPTV, with 3 GB of RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB ports for recording to a drive, and ongoing software updates. Its hardware dates from 2019, it has no AV1, and it is expensive, so buy it only if you want the extras: recording, a Plex server or game streaming.
5. Apple TV 4K: best for iPhone households
Fast, ad-free and updated for years. Apple TV cannot install apps from outside the App Store, but the App Store has good IPTV players, such as IBO Player Pro, that accept M3U and Xtream logins. Choose the 128 GB model: it is the one with an Ethernet port. TiviMate is not available on Apple devices.
6. Formuler Z11 Pro Max: best dedicated IPTV box
Built for IPTV first: 4 GB of RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, AV1 and Formuler’s own MYTVOnline 3 player built in, with a remote that has IPTV shortcut buttons. It also runs Android apps. Choose it if IPTV is your main way of watching TV and you want a box that does that one job very well.
Devices to avoid for IPTV
- Fire TV Sticks on Vega OS: the Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025), the Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Gen, 2026) and the Fire TV Stick HD (2026). Vega OS only runs Amazon Appstore apps, so TiviMate and the other common players cannot be installed. Check the model name in Settings → My Fire TV → About before you buy second-hand. More in IPTV and Vega OS explained.
- Roku: Roku no longer allows apps that load your own playlist, so there is no way to add an M3U or Xtream login.
- Chromecast with Google TV: Google stopped making it in 2024. If you already own one it still works, but it has only 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, so do not buy one now.
MAG boxes are a special case: they suit services that log in with a MAC portal. VisualiseTv uses M3U and Xtream Codes logins, so any device above is a better choice.
Do you need a device at all?
Maybe not. Most Samsung, LG and Hisense TVs from about 2018 onwards can run IBO Player or Smart IPTV directly. A separate device is worth it when your TV is old, runs Roku, has no player in its store, or feels slow with a big channel list. See how to install IPTV on a Smart TV.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest good device for IPTV?
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), especially on sale. In the US, the Onn 4K Pro is a similar price and adds an Ethernet port.
Can I use a Roku for IPTV?
Not with your own IPTV login. Roku has removed apps that load M3U or Xtream playlists. Use one of the devices above instead.
Why not buy the newest Fire TV Stick?
The newest sticks run Vega OS, which cannot install IPTV players from outside the Amazon Appstore. The 4K Max (2nd Gen) still runs Fire OS and installs them normally.
Is Apple TV good for IPTV?
Yes, with an App Store player such as IBO Player Pro. TiviMate is not available on Apple TV.
How much RAM does an IPTV device need?
At least 2 GB. With 3 to 4 GB, a 40,000-channel list and its TV guide load and scroll noticeably faster.
Ethernet or Wi-Fi for IPTV?
Ethernet whenever you can, especially for live sport. On Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz band or Wi-Fi 6.
